Stabbed lawyer improves
A Christchurch man aged 82 who was stabbed in the chest while riding in a bus on Friday was in a fairly comfortable condition in the Princess Margaret Hospital last evening. He is Ernest Thomas Laybum, of 14 Dyers Pass Road, Cashmere. Mr Layburn, a solicitor, was travelling from Cashmere to Cathedral Square when he was attacked about 10 a.m. A man, aged 47, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday afternoon charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Mr Laybum. The man was remanded to Sunnyside Hospital.
