Big housing subsidy
Parliamentary reporter A Housing Corporation subsidy of almost $176,000 for two Christchurch City Council rental housing projects for the elderly was announced yesterday by the Minister of Housing (Mr Gair). A subsidy of $106,000 was approved for 12 relocatable flats to be built on motorway land in Berwick Street, and $69,889 was approved for another seven units to be built beside 15 already completed in Angus Street
Additional corporation loans would be given to cover the remaining cost of building the flats, said Mr Gair. The policy of financing the full cost of rental flats for the elderly was being maintained, despite economic circumstances, in a drive to build a record number of such dwellings this financial year. The Government confidently expected to have 800 finished by next March 31, said Mr Gair.
