Fairlie extended
NZPA Brisbane The New Zealand Davis Cup player. Brian Fairlie, had to battle to overcome strong opposition from the littleknown American, Tim Gullikson, in the Air IndiaB.P. tennis classic in Brisbane on Wednesday. Fairlie won the match, 7-5, 7-6, but looked anything but a winner in the second set when he had difficulty holding his service. He dropped service twice in the last set and came close to losing it a third time before winning a tie-braker to decide the set and match. Rain saved Ken Rosewall in his first round match. The veteran Australian. Bob Carmichael. had Rosewall in a corner when rain forced the end of play for the night. Geoff Masters, the eighth seed, was beaten by fellow Australian, Phil Dent, the fifth seed, 6-2, 6-2.
