Drysdale sales over $5M?
Sales of New Zealand Drysdale carpet wool could top SSM this season, according to the chairman of the Drysdale Carpet Wool Co-operative Society Ltd. Mr H. M. Linklater. The co-operative society was formed to market Drysdale wool. Since the first commercial sales of Drysdale wool were made in 1966, when growers were paid about SIO,OOO, Mr Linklater said that production had expanded to the stage where for the year ended June 30 this year payments to growers reached 53.67 M.
“Between 1975 and 1976 Drysdale production increased by about 28 per cent, and if this rate of increase continues the turnover of this important specialty carpet wool clip will exceed SSM for the 1976-77 season” he said.
The present season would be important for another reason, too. It would be the first full year of trading of the recently formed co-operative and it would be the year tn which
the acceptability of Drysdale wool on overseas markets would be evaluated. The directors of the cooperative have made several approaches to other producers of specialty carpet wools with the objective of having the co-oper-ative appointed as marketing agents for all wool in this category to ensure a strong single seller.
