Canterbury hockey rep. dies
Mr Percy Norman Quar* termain, who died iri Christchurch last week M was well known in Christchurch business and hockey circles.
He represented Canter* bury at hockey for many years in the 1920 s and 19305, and was considered one of the best right wings to represent the province.
He played for Canter* bury against the first two Indian teams to tour New Zealand — the Indian Army team in 1926, and in 1935, the All-India side led by Dhyan Chand; In 1922 and 1923, he was secretary of the New, Zealand Hockey Associ* ation, and for a number ot years after that was the association’s treasurer.
Mr Quartermain, who had his own accountancy practice, was a former chairman of directors of the old Ballins Breweries company, and- a director of several other com* panies. At the time of his death, he owned the Hotel Chatham on the Chatham Islands.
