Looking as though she had run into a giant bucket of white wash, a pie-bald Coastal Ranger (above) arrived in Lyttelton yesterday on the completion of her first round trip on the inter-island service.
There was every evidence of a hasty get-away on Wednesday — the front half of her port side wore undercoat white and her stem had the old familiar Union Company green.
Even her name on the bow was all but obliterated by the primer. It is expected she will be a more fitting replacement for the Rangatira by the end of the week, when her maintenance is completed.
