AWAPUNI T RACKWORK Tom Bowling looks fit for Wanganui
(Special correspondent) Palmerston North Tom Bowling was a costly failure on the first day at Wanganui, but he looks an improved horse for that outing. He worked in good style at Awapuni yesterday so a better effort could be on the cards in the Spring Handicap on the second day of the meeting tomorrow. His trainer, Garth Ivil, has not yet made up his mind about who will ride Tom Bowling. It will either be Jim Walker or former Wairarapa apprentice, Stephen Valley, who is now attached to the Ivil stable.
Yesterday all work took nlace wide out on the inside rial with the track slow, esoecially over the last 600 m, where there was a wet patch which caused horses to ease rounding the bend. Tom Bowling and Mr Million covered 1000 m in Imin 9sec. the last 600 in 42sec. Tom Bowling was going easily at the finish. If the track is firmer tomorrow he might do better than last week.
