Viking grab freed
NZPA-Reuter Pasadena Space scientists have freed a jammed soil scoop that was preventing the Viking 2 spacecraft from carrying out a chemical analysis of the Martian soil, according to project spokesmen in Pasadena, California.
They blamed a faulty switch on the automatic soil grabber for the breakdown. The scoop jammed on Sunday when it had collected Martian soil for the spacecraft’s biology experiment and was twisting round to unload gravel into another test chamber.
