The Social Security Amendment Bill and the Government Superannuation Fund Amendment Bill each received a first reading. The Government won a division on the admission of the former measure, 43 votes to 23. An Opposition attempt to have it sent to a select committee was lost by a similar margin. The Services Export Development Branch Amendment Bill was also read a first' time.
