Population estimated
PA Wellington New Zealand's total population was provisionally estimated to be 3,095,300 at June 30, says the Government Statistician (Mr J. T. V. Baker), while that at March 31, was 3,125,200. These estimates were based on the provisional count of total population from the 1976 census of population and dwellings, held on March 23. and will be subject to revision when the final population count becomes available.
During the quarter ended Tune 30, 1976, there was an estimated decrease in population of approximately 29.900 derived from a natural increase (excess of births over deaths) of 6600 and a net migration loss of 36,500.
