Australian markets still unsettled
Australian sharemarkets closed on a generally unsettled note in quiet trading conditions yesterday. Poseidon shares crashed once more, in the wake of the preliminary final report.
The stock had soared to 130 c earlier in the day, but fell back quickly to 92c. Elsewhere, the market remained unsettled. PekoWallsend fell 12c to 55c, and Pancontinental 40c to 1210 c. North 8.H., A.M.S., Hamersley, Kathleen, were all sold lower.
Consolidated Gold dropped 15c to 260 c, but Western Titanium and Associated Minerals were sharply higher on the quotes. Woodside-Burmah firmed 3c at 121 c, but was outpaced by Ampolex, which advanced 7c to 130 c.
Among the industrials, Waltons plunged 10c to 90c on the sharp profit downturn, but Tooth leapt 13c to 188 c. Tooheys, Philip Morris, the National Bank, and C.S.R. moved to higher ground, but Myers, the Wales, and Hooker were depressed.
E.Z. Industries retreated 15c to 360 c, in sympathy with Peko-Wallsend. B.H.P. showed a meagre 2c gain at 876 c.
