New city bus fares
Sir, — The new “sameday, two-trip” bus ticket is a farce. Needing to spend only two hours in the city today and finding the afternoon more suitable than the morning, I boarded a bus for the city at about 12.30 p.m., fully expecting to be able to make use of the so-called concession fare. To my surprise, I found that, to qualify for the concession fare, advertised as being valid from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., I am obliged to leave home before noon. My use of the bus service instead of a private car was intended to be a gesture of support for the new service. I am disappointed that the restrictive conditions severely limit the usefulness of the scheme. I find the re-
strictions difficult to understand. Buses running to the city in the early afternoon are less crowded than those running between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. — Yours, etc., JANET CLOSE. September 15, 1976.
