BOAT MAINTENANCE AND WATER SAFETY
Thousands of New Zealanders spend their summer leisure hours messing about in boats. A large number of these people are "week-end” boaties, not affiliated to any club, and boating purely for pleasure. These are the people to whom the latest “Continuing Education” series on Radio New Zealand’s "Ready to Float" is aimed. A comprehensive series of programmes to be broadcast from both the National Programme and Community Stations will cover all aspects of boat maintenance and water safety, from "Below the Line” (hull protection and maintenance) to essential equipment to have on
board, and mooring requirements. The first of these, on the National Programme at 12.45 p.m. on Sunday, will deal with the maintenance of both wooden and fibreglass hulls, pointing out faults to look for and how to deal with them. The second looks at inboard and outboard motor maintenance, the third at essential equipment, and the fourth at mooring requirements and boat trailer maintenance. These programmes will be broadcast each week at 12.45 p.m. Community Stations will carry supplementary programmes each Saturday morning through the summer season from November until February. A
third series, a comprehensive series for broadcast in the the National Programme’s “All Things Considered” segment, will run through January. Radio New Zealand’s “Continuing Education” will also, in association with the New Zealand Water Safety Council, be promoting boating safety at the National Boat Show in Auckland during September and October.
