Tender hearted
A persistent Finnish shoemaker has just patented a painless mouse trap. It took Mr Vaino Huumonen 30 years to develop his idea. A mouse touching the bait in the box-like device springs a trap-door which plunges it into a secure cell below. The trap then returns to its original position to await the next victim. The inventor, who made the trap to save mice from suffering, does not say what should be done with them once caught. —- Helsinki. Obituary The former Ecuadorean President, Mr Camilo Ponce Henriquez, has died after a heart attack; He was 64. Mr Ponce Henriquez, who ruled from 1956 to 1960, led the civilian opposition to the former military President, General Guillermo Rodriguez, who was ousted early this year by the ruling military triumvirate. — Quito.
