Miners find support

Mining shares rallied on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Traders said that after the hammering of the past several sessions, miners found strong buying support.

Peko-Wallsend stood out with a 40c rise to 570 c, recovering all of this week’s losses. Queensland Mines rose 20c to 260 c, and Poseidon 16c to 115 c. C.R.A. was raised 15c to 310 c and Pancontinental recovered 80c at 1250 c. W.M.C. rose 8c to 184 c.

Woodside, Ocean Resources, BH South, A.M. and S., and Ampoi Exploration showed gains. North 8.H., and A.A.R. were among the miners to fall.

On the industrial boards, B.H.P. firmed 4c at 874 c as did C.S.R. at 496 c. Amatii, Myers, Comalco, the C.B.C. and I.A.C. showed gains of up to 5c each. The Wales, A.N.Z., and Hooker were depressed.
