Orchids
“This Week In Britain," on TVI looks at the orchid.
A certain mysticism has grown around these exotic blooms; they are synonymous with that “special occasion” and also with the popular image of beautiful women in flowing gowns.
Britain was the first country to cultivate these tropical flowers and Gail Sprio visits a nursery in Oxfordshire which breeds one particular type of orchid — “The Lady’s Slipper.” Years of hot-house cultivation and cross-breeding have produced an amazing ’ variety of colours and sizes.
