PUBLIC NOTICE NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT DOMESTIC PURPOSES BENEFIT REVIEW COMMITTEE THE ABOVE COMMITTEE was established by the Government to examine in detail broad questions concerning the domestic purposes benefit administered bv the Department of Social Welfare and to provide the Government with information on which to base further action. As stated in the Budget, the Government is concerned at the rapid growth in the number of people receiving the domestic purposes benefit and at the disturbing social trends which could be associated with this growth. The Government would like to be more certain that adequate provision is made for those in genuine need of it and that measures taken in this area will bring positive short and long term social benefit to the individuals concerned and to New Zealand society. A number of organisations likely to be interested in this question have been invited to send written submissions to the Review Committee. Anv other interested organisations that were not circularised an individual members of the public are also invited to forward written submissions. The Committee has been asked to report by the end of October. It is NOT part of its function to review individual cases.
