N.Z. wheat for export to Asia

New Zealand wheat has been sold for export. The general manager of the Wheat Board (Mr E. R. W. Reed) said yesterday that 15,000 tonnes would be shipped from Timaru in the Elisabeth Schulte, which was due to arrive next week-end. The wheat was now being loaded into the silos at Timaru for the shipment. Last month the Minister of Trade and Industry, (Mr Adams-Schneider) said the Government had agreed with the Wheat Board to offer 15,000 tonnes for export.

The sale has been made by Wrightson NMA, Ltd. The firm’s New Zealand grain and seed manager (Mr R. Russell) said yesterday that the wheat would go to SouthEast Asia, where it would be blended with other wheat and used for milling. Loading of the grain would begin next Monday. After this cargo had gone, Mr Reed said that another stock-taking of wheat supplies would be made to see if there was any more wheat for export.
