Ellesmere studies
Proposals by Lincoln <o.lege for research mto the state of Lake Ellesmere were referred bx the North Canterbury Catchment Board yesterday to the Water Resources Council for approval and payment. Dr G. N. Macßaild of the college’s botany department, submitted a plan tor research on the lake’s algae and their bearing on the eutrophication of the lake. He wants to set up a team ■to identify algae species and make laboratory studies over a period of three years. He estimated the cost at $11,830. Professor I. W Walker, of the college's soil science department, wants to study the sediments on the lake bottom and their possible bearing on eutrophication The research would take two or three years, at $BOOO j year. Both projects were sub mitted to the board through the joint Lake Ellesmere Re search Committee.
