During the June quarter.; 1976. surveyed hire-purchase sales were 587.6 M. an in-; crease of 52.9 M. or 3.4 per cent from the value of $B4 7M recorded for the ' June quarter. 1975 For the! June quarter. 1974, the corresponding figure was l 577.0 M Sales for the June quarter. 1976. compared with! the same quarter. 1975. showed an increase in other household and personal i goods (excluding television sets) of 24 9 per cent (from 516.0 M to 520.0 M). plant andj machinery 8.5 per cent (from!
512.2 M to 513.3 M), a decrease in sales of television] sets of 7.1 per cent (from 52.9 M to 52.7 M), and a decrease in motor-vehicles of 3.6 per cent (from 553.6 M to 551.6 M). Sales on hire-purchase by the businesses included in the survey, in the June. 1976, quarter, compared with the 1 March. 1976, quarter, decreased by S4.IM — or 4 4 per cent. For hire-purchase agreements made in the latest i quarter the average amount of coverage on television sets was $415. For motor-vehicles the average amount ■ covered by agreements was $2130. In the June quarter of 1975 the respective average amounts covered by agreements were $496 for television sets and $1603 for motor vehicles. The category “motori vehicles” in this survey in- ! eludes, besides motor cars and station waggons, motor buses. trucks, tractors, , powered cycles, caravans, trailers, and accessories.
