Murder accused remanded
Two young men accused of murdering a Christchurch taxi driver were remanded for a week when they appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Ricky Warren Richardson, aged 18, unemployed, and Steven John Goodwin, aged 19, a sandblaster, appeared handcuffed to a police constable before Mr H. J. Evans, S.M. They are accused of murdering Walter John Chisnail on or about August 12. Their counsel (Mr R. L. Kerr) said that the taking of depositions, which would last two days, might begin on September 23. He sought a remand for one week, to August 31.
Neither of the accused entered a plea. Sergeant M. P. Caldwell appeared for the police.
