Trucks belonging to Transport North Canterbury, Ltd, stand idle yesterday at the firm’s Rangiora depot during the 24hour stoppage by drivers. The stoppage closed the company’s 10 depots, three shingle plants and its debarking plant. The firm employs about 200 drivers and loaders in North Canterbury and has about 206 vehicles. A company spokesman said it was virtually impossible to estimate the loss of revenue because of the strike. Bus services from Rangiora to Christchurch were also stopped by the strike.
