Fire guts flat
Fire badly damaged a small detached flat at 123 Somerfield Street, Somerfield, about 9.30 a.m. yesterday. A fireman is shown dampening down the kitchen after the fire.
Neighbours raised the alarm, but the 'flat was well ablaze by the time firemen arrived. The tenant, an elderly woman, was not there. A man was treated at
Christchurch Hospital after an acetylene bottle caught fire at New Zealand Motor Bodies, Ltd, 99 Ferry Road, about 9.05 a.m. yesterday. The man suffered minor burns to his hands.
