New man for defence post

Commodore N. D. Anderson has been appointed

Defence headquarters in Wellington. He succeeds Brigadier R. D. P. Hassett, who was recently named as the next Chief of the General Staff. Commodore Anderson, a navigation specialist, graduated from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. At 33 he became the youngest New Zealand-born and trained officer to command a frigate when he was appointed the first commanding officer of H.M.N.Z.S. Taranaki.

He graduated from the Royal College of Defence Studies, London, in 1972 and since 1974 has been the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Support) at Defence Headquarters.
