Jaws II
PA Nelson! ' A 25ft to 30ft shark is |
lurking a stone’s throw from the shore at the I southern end of D’Urville : Island. It has been there for i two months and residents I have so far made three unsuccessful attempts to catch it. Mr R. Wells, of Manawakupukupu, said that | when her children first ' saw the shark it was so long they thought there were two — it was cruising with both its dorsal and tail fins out of the water. But a sighting the next day showed it to be one big shark. The shark cruises all day long in water Bft deep just out from the shore. It is dark in colour, with a large dorsal fin. In summer the odd shark “calls” at the island, but these just come and go: unlike this shark which, like Pelorus Jack, seems to have made French Pass its home.
