Fireworks remit
PA Hamilton The New Zealand ParentTeacher Association wants the Government to introduce legislation forbidding children under 15 to buy fireworks.
A remit calling for the ban was introduced by the National executive at the association’s conference in Hamilton during the weekend. It was passed by a substantial majority.
An outright, ban on fireworks would only increase the incidence of home-made fireworks and take away the jobs and livelihood of a number of New Zealanders, the executive said in a supporting statement.
