Canterbury loses table tennis

PA Tauranga The veteran Northland table tennis player, Garry Frew, was the outstanding competitor in the first round of the inter-association table tennis championships played at Tauranga yesterday.

Northland beat Canterbury, 6-5, in the men’s A grade for the Kean Challenge Shield.

Frew beat both the sixth seed. Wayne Adamson, and the eighth seed, Maurice Burrowes. in straight sets to take Northland to victory.

The only other unsets of the first round was Christine Sole’s two straight wins for North Tamaki over Phillipa Marks, of Canterbury’. Sole and Mez Reamers then paired to beat Miss Marks and Jan Morris, 21-14 in the 'third. . ..
