Aust eyes on N.Z. racing NZPA Sydney New Zealand racing news featured on the front pages of two Australian newspapers yesterday, both reports coming from staff writers who have been sent to New Zealand to cover the build up to the major spring races in Sydney and Melbourne. The reporters, Ross Du Bourg, for the “Australian,” and Glen Lester, in the “Melbourne Age,” both festered the dead-heat at Te Rapa between Happy Union and Suleiman.

The “Age” also printed a front page picture of the dead-heat taken by its staff photographer, Bruce Postle, who is visiting New Zealand. Du Bourg reported that Balmerino, now preparing in Brisbane for his attack on the Melbourne carnival, is still in doubt for the .Melbourne Cup on November 2, and that a decision will be made after the Cox Plate on October 23 on whether the four-year-old will stay in Melbourne or $o to Maryland for the Washington international.
