Freedom in sport
; pa Wanganui i The freedom of sports (bodies to run their own affairs carries with it a greater responsibility to consider the wider implications of overseas contacts, the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Talbovs) has said in a letter to the Wanganui Peace Organisation. He emphasised that the Government had no intention of recalling the All Blacks from South Africa because of recent racial violence. But he implied that other bodies should give deeper consideration to sports ties with South Africa.
“Clearly, where sporting activities are interpreted in (ways greatly different from (their intent sportsmen must I i consider whether they are by : their contacts upholding (those principles of fair!mindedness and sportsmanship which we rightly cherish lin New Zealand,” the Minis'ter said.
