Water-use conference
Water in New Zealand, its use and conservation, will be discussed at a conference arranged by the Institution of Engineers and the Royal Society of New Zealand in Christchurch this week. The conference will be held at the University of Canterbury and will be opened today by the Minister of Works and Development (Mr Young). The three-day conference will examine water management, realistic national and regional goals, the role of authorities and the Government, water as an economic commodity, and environmental factors. The Chief Justice (Sir Richard Wild) will be the guest speaker, and 18 papers will be delivered by senior department executives, researchers, professors and university lecturers.
