Mental cases in medical wards
Sir,—A. Meikle’s letter about the admission of psychiatric cases to “ordinary” medical wards is rather a sad reflection of her attitude. If this attitude is evident while she is on duty it is no wonder that the mental cases she refers to play up at night or any other time. It is also interesting to note that she casts some doubt on the admitting doctors’ ability to assess these patients as being placed in the ward or hospital most suitable for their needs. H. D. Bell described A. Meikle’s letter as being uncharitable and I, along with other nurses, agree.—Yours, etc., R. A. BROWN. August 17, 1976.
