Smash A just wins vollevball
Smash A was very hard pressed to beat Wigram by tw r o sets to one in A grade men’s volleyball this week. Smash had to struggle to win the first set, 15-13; had a comfortable 15-4 win in the second set; but Wigram, under the leadership of Gary Campbell, fought back to win the final set, 17-15.

A grade. — University B beat! Smash B, 10-15, 15-8, 19-17;, Y.M.C.A. A beat University A,! 16-14, 15-5.
B grade. — Superset A beat Cashmere, 15-7, 15-7, 14-16; Burnside beat Hagley High. 15-11, 15-13; Wigram beat Y.M.C.A. B, 7-15, 15-13, 17-15; Aranui beat Hillmorton, 15-16, 16-14, 15-4.
WOMEN A grade. — University B beat Avonside, 15-4, 15-6, 15-13; Aranui High beat Aranui High, 3-0; C.G.H.S. beat Cashmere, 3-0.
B grade, — Y.M.C.A. drew with Aranui Staff, 15-6, 6-15; Smash B beat Burnside, 15-11, 15-7, 8-15; Hagley High beat Hillmorton High, 15-10, 15-4, 15-0.
MIXED United beat Burnside Staff. 15-8, 15-9, 14,9; Riceburn beat Superset B, J 5-4, 15-1, 15-10; Cashmere beat Te Mahita, 15-12, 17-15, 10-15; Xavier beat Hagley, 8-15, 15-1, 15-8.
Swimming.—The Syrian professional swimmer, Marawan Saleh, has crossed the English Channel in a men’s record time [of 9hr 27min. Saleh, competing [in a four-nation Arab Channel [swim, broke Hie old record bv |Brnin and collected a £lOOO prize.
