Tax on car spares
PA Wellington Some car spare parts may rise 20 per cent in price because of the Budget sales tax on machinery. New-car prices may also be affected. The Customs Amendment Act removes the sales tax exemption from a list of more than 21 parts, making them liable to a 20 per cent sales tax. The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association will ask the Minister of Customs (Mr Wilkinson) if the changes were the intention of the act.
The 21 parts include carburettors, windscreen washers, drive shafts, filters, heaters, and thermostats.
