Company called to account
Canterbury Timber Products, Ltd, will not be prosecuted by the North Canterbury’ Catchment Board for allowing diesel oil to escape into Saltwater Creek on July 21. The board, at its meeting on Friday, was told that the company had taken prompt action to correct the position. “The maximum fine on a successful prosecution is not enough to repair the damage done to a river,” said Mr H. E. Connor.
The board asked for a report from the company without delay Told that there was evidence of other polluting discharges from the company’s property, the board asked the company to make a comprehensive investigation of all possible waste discharges.
