GREYHOUND RACING Consistent winner

Rhythmic Wave capped off a string of minor placings with an impressive win in the America’s Trophy greyhound puppy final at the Christchurch club’s equalisator meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday.

The fawn Long Wave— Dromana Wonder bitch had finished runner-up on three occasions and was third in her last four starts. She was rewarded for her consistency when she stormed along the rails, gathered in the pacemaking Roger The Lodger close to the line, and won the 5100 first prize. Rhythmic Wave is owned and trained at Halswell by Jack Davison, who had considerable success two years ago with the ill-fated M’Lady. From tile inside box, Rhythmic Wave made a good beginning and followed Roger The Lodger, which was having his first start, and Roland McDonald down the back straight. The little bitch stuck tightly to the rail and she burst along the inside in the home straight as Roger The Lodger moved to the centre of the track. She sustained her rails run and won narrowly but well from Roger The Lodger, a big Long Wave — Keenset dog, which should not be long in gaining his first success.

The favourite, Master McGrath—the fastest qualifier and most experienced dog in the field—was last away and trailed the field into the back. He came with a determined run for third placing and was only two lengths away from the w’inner. Ronald McDonald, which was handv throughout, stayed on solidly for fourth ahead of Circus Girl, which was checked along the back, Cee Tee and Man-o-War both of which never left the rear. Hi Ho Toby turned backwards in the box and failed to take any part in the race.

The Chief Zero Stakes for bitches was won brilliantly by Maxi Revs. The Old Hobbs— Trudy Galore bitch followed Lady Dawn into the back straight, but soon took control. She had four lengths on the field at the home turn and was comfortably clear at the finish. •

Maxi Revs covered the 540 m in 32.53 sec—an excellent time on a track which was soft and cutting out on the turns.

The game little black bitch, Moss-Key-Toe finished stoutly wide on the track to gain second from Hobbs Galore, which was fifth down the back and made ground well without appearing likely to trouble the winner. The outstanding run of he Red Baron —Smooth Flight litteicontinued when four of the youngsters—Outa Bounds, Bright Byrne, Norab Der and Fiddler’s Arms—were successful. All four won convincingly and are headed for the best company.

Desert Fox. although beaten at the jump by Mister Hobbs, stayed close to the rails and finished strongly to catch the

ipacemaker in the limit sprint. Domingo, after drawing box eight and having to go hard to take a prominent position early, battled on gamely for third.
