SECRETARY FOR FINANCE REPUBLIC OF NAURU CENTRAL PACIFIC Applications are invited from suitably qualified experienced persons for the currently vacant position of Secretary for finance for the Republic of Nauru. duties iik , A As head of the Deportment of finance, the Secretary for finance will be required to supervise revenue collection and the control of expenditure by oil departments of the Republic Government. He will be directly responsible for the administration-of the Department of Finance with his staff of 25, including 4 qualified accountants and will advise the Minister of finance and through him the Cabinet on oil aspects of public finance. The Secretary for Finance is also responsible for the postal services of the Republic. QUALIFICATIONS A Ideally applicants should possess a good Honest degree in economics. A qualification in accounting and, or a sound background in this field would be an added advantage. Candidates should have experience in Government or quasi Government and in commercial finance, preferably internationally. SALARY , f The current salary for this position is Aust. $13,244 pa plus on expatriate loading or Aust. S9OO pa. All salaries are paid in Australian currency and are tax free in Nauru. CONDITIONS b The appointee will initially be offered a 2 or 4 year contract which may be renewed by mutual agreement. Home leave on full pay is granted at the rate of six weeks per year and would normally be taken after 21 months of service, although leave after a shorter period may be approved in special circumstances. Fares to and from Nauru are provided for appointees and their wives and for dependants under the age of 18 years. Medical and Dental services on the Island are free, as is housing, power and water. Furniture is available at a nominal rental. general Nauru is a small tropical Island just south of the Equator which has a warm sunny climate, offers a variety of sporting and social activities and has regular air and shipping services. The overall cost of living is similar to that in Australia or New Zealand, but as almost all goods enter Nauru duty free, a wide range of articles are consequently cheaper than in Australia or New Zealand.
