B.H.P. reaches new high
The Broken Hill Proprietary, Ltd, bid for the 41.8 per cent Burmah Oil Company interest in Woodside-Burmah saw B.H.P.’s shares rise to a new high for the year in an otherwise quiet trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. B.H.P. rose 12c to 842 c, while Woodside-Burmah put on 3c at 102 c. Despite its record profit result, Philip Morris was untraded. A.S.L. cancelled Thursday’s loss and 1.A.C., Amatil, C.U.8., Hooker, and the Bank of N.S.W. rose a few cents each. 1.C.1. was 10c down at 180 c, but C.S.R. rose 2c to 516 c, its first gain this week. On the mining boards, Pancontinental was able to recover Thursday’s fall, by gaining 50c to 1420 c, and Hamersley, C.R.A., B.H. South and A.A.R. firmed.
