WHIM WHAM
During the Budget debate the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Adams-Schneider, said that when he was a young boy he had always wanted to own a fish and chips shop, but if Labour “was put in charge of one they wouldn’t make a profit” . . . — News. Beware of wha't you wish for in youth, for you will get it in middle age.—The Whim Wham Anthology of Sobering Thoughts. Ah, the Dreams of our Boyhood, Which all of us have known! He always wanted a Fish and Chips Shop Of his very Own — And all he got was a Job in the Cabinet, W’hen he was grown. The Potatoes he peeled, in Fancy, With never a wasted Chip! When a Fool might spatter the precious Batter He’d deftly dip The well-trimmed Fillet — he’d never spill It, Not a Drop or a Drip! The golden Fries of his Vision, Not One he’d ever spoil — His heart’s Desire, a Basket of Wire, And the deep, hot Oil! But the destined Heat was a Cabinet Seat, And a sweatier Toil. Still, his Heart’s in the Business, A Dream that lingers late: And We, poor Fish, are a tasty Dish For the Takeaway State. When the Chips are down and the Fish done brown, Who fills his Plate?
