Wet, sunny, cold July
Although last month was the sunniest July in Christchurch for 17 years, the nights were considerably colder than average, the Meteorological Office reports. More than 149 hours of sunshine was recorded — about 27 hours more than usual. The lowest temperature recorded was -s.3deg. on July 4 and 6 at the airport. Snow fell on July 17, but did not lie. The highest recorded was 16.4 deg on July 14, at the Botanic Gardens. The lowest mean grass temperature was -9.Bdeg. Rainfall was slightly above average, 59mm falling at the airport, and 78mm in the city. Most fell during the middle of the month. The number of sunshine hours this year totals 1171 compared with an average 1068, and total rainfall at the airport 403 mm compared with 410.
