The New Zealand High Commissioner in London, Mr b. C Carter, samples an apple from the 2 millionth carton to be exported from the Nelson region. The carton was presented to Mr Carter by the European manager of the New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board, Mr 11. N. Guymer.
Of the 3.2 million cartons of apples exported to Britain and Europe this season, 2.2. million cartons have gone to Europe. This reverses the position that existed three years ago when most of the apples were sold in Britain.
Mr Guymer said that the British entry into the Common Market had opened huge markets for New Zealand fruit, especially in the Scandinavian countries.
