Badminton chance for Canterbury
. Auckland Lafe last evening Auckland White was leading Hutt Valley 8-2 and seeemed certain of a win in the section 1 match of the Wisden Cup inter-provincial bad minton being played at the Bad mlnton Hall, in Auckland. Even at that stage, Auckland White only needs to win eight matches against Waitemata to day to qualify for the final against the section 2 winner There is doubt which of the Auckland Blue or Canterbury win win section 2 Both teams had won five matches each in their contest late last e'en Ing. Auckland Blue. however, needed to win the contest by a large margin to have a chance of making the finals. Canterbury has a further match to play against Central Districts today and could gain a further 18 points, which would put it into the final. Results:—
Section I—Waitemata 22 games. Hutt Valley 18 games ‘3 matches each); Taranaki 10, Otago 6; Auckland White 15, Wanganui 11; progress this -’age In section 1. Auckland White 8 leads Hutt Valiev 2; Wanganui 6, Leads Otago u. Section 2.—Auckland Blue 13. Central Districts 3; Canterhurv 13 Wellington 3; nrogress. Auckland Blue end Canterbury. 5 matches eacn.
Tennis.—Adriano Panatta beat John l.lovd 5-7, 6-3. fi-3. 2-S, M, to push Italv Into a 2-0 lead ever Britain in their European B rone Davis Cun tennis final a’ Wimbledon. Antonio Zugarelll won the opening match against Roger Taylor M, IS. 3-8* 6-1.
