N.Z. yachts first home
NZPA-Reuter Marseilles. New Zealand yachtsmen dominated the opening day of the 1976 One Ton Cup event off France yesterday, finishing first and second in the 37 mile In-shore test. First across the line was 45 Degrees South, followed by Jiminy Cricket. Third place went to America Jane 111. fourth Resolute Salmon and fifth Pied Piper, all three from the United States.
By the end of the day, competitors hid to eope with a force seven gale blowing from the north-west, whipping up waves 21 metres high. Forty-three yachts from 17 countries are taking part In this year's Ona Ton Cup series, one of the most prestigious events In the international yachting calendar.
