Gift for concerto prize fund
A cheque for $750 was presented yesterday to the Christchurch Civic Music Council by the Royal Christchurch Musical Society for the national concerto trust appeal fund. The concerto fund now stands at $16,480. The R.C.M.S. donation was the proceeds from the recent recital for the society by Michael Houstoun, said the chairman (Mr D. R. Batten). The president of the Christchurch Civic Music Council (Mr Hamish Hay) said it was appropriate that Michael Houstoun, a concerto contest winner, should be associated with the fund raising. It was hoped that the establishment of a fund would lead to a more secure future for the cappetition, he said.
