Escape at hospital
A man who has been remanded in custody for sentence on a charge of robbery escaped when he walked out of Christchurch Hospital yesterday. Russell Graeme Chapman was admitted to hospital on Thursday night with suspected appendicitis, and he left at 11.30 a.m. yesterday. He was not under guard while in hospital. Chapman is a 22-year-old European, sft 9in, and has extensive tattoos. The police do not consider him to be dangerous.
He had been remanded to Addington Prison for sentence after pleading guilty to a charge o’f attempted robbery of the “Fair Deal” second-hand shop in Manchester Street on July 28. The police would like to hear from anyone who knows of Chapman’s whereabouts.
