Twine saves pine in time
An appeal by the Marlborough Forestry Corporation recently for a large amount of binder twine had better results than expected. The twine was needed to tie up thousands of young pine trees which had been flattened by heavy snow about three weeks ago. The corporation appealed to farmers in the area to bring in any spare twine they had, so that the work could start as soon as possible.
Within a short time, the corporation was inundated with twine, and when several people associated with the appeal returned home at night there was even more twine waiting for them. The twine is now being put to good use, and the tieing-up work is progressing well. The corporation believes the trees have a good chance of recovering if no high winds hit the area during the next few weeks.
