Govt move criticised
j The New Zealand Association of Probation Officers has criticised the Government's removal of the name suppression provision from the Criminal Justice Amendment Act (1975). In a statement released in Christchurch, the association said that it did not take lightly the Government’s decision to allow the names of accused persons to be reported. The association, had considerable experience in the running of the court system and was aware of the possible anomalies. At its annual meeting in April the association had expressed its full support for name suppresssion until guilt is proved.
