Stop Out coach quits

PA Wellington Mr Mick Jones, of the lowest-ranked club in the national soccer league, Stop Out, has resigned as the club’s top coach. His surprise resignation was confirmed yesterday by the club’s manager, Mr Peter Dunn. Stop Out faces the prospect of relegation. A long-serving player, Maurice Tillotson, who handed over the coaching slot to Jones at the start of this season, will take over the position again. Jones, who celebrated a hollow thirty-first birthday last Sunday after his side’s 0-6 swamping by North Shore, was reluctant yesterday to talk of the reasons behind his step-down. He said he had “the best interests of the club at heart” in resigning. A club committee meeting on Monday night gave a resounding vote of confidence in Jones’s ability and asked him to continue as first team coach. The team was told of Jones’s decision to quit at a training session on Tuesday night
