Concorde for N.Z? By LES BLOXHAM, travel editor British Airways is understood to be interested in extending to New Zealand the supersonic Concorde sendee that it will operate between London and Melbourne next year. Reliable aviation sources in Auckland told me this week that they believed top level overtures had been made by the British airline to Air New Zealand for rights to introduce Concorde on some of its existing schedules into Auckland. However, a senior executive of Air New Zealand—who preferred not to be named—said he was unaware of any approach. Likewise, civil aviation authorities in Wellington report that no requests have yet been made for an environmental or technical assessment of the controversial aircraft. Nevertheless, my Auckland sources are still predicting that an official announcement on the new service can be expected sometime in October—about five months before New’ Zealanders might get their first glimpse of Concorde.
