New women's vice-president

PA Rotorua The new women’s vicepresident of the National Party is Mrs Julie Cameron, from the Wairarapa. She was elected on a first ballot, defeating Mrs Valerie Forbes (Te Awamutu) and an Aucklander, Mrs Lois Morris. Mrs Cameron, aged 29, stood for the Heretaunga electorate last year and reduced the margin of the former Labour Minister of Electricity, Mr R. L. Bailey, from 2964 to 336. She takes over her post from Mrs Helen Sinclair. Juiie Cameron’s husband is a Wairarapa farmer. They have an eight-year-old son. In 1972 Mrs Cameron founded the New Zealand Homemakers’ Union. She is now studying economics for a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree.
