St John needs aid
The Canterbury and West Coast division of the St (John Ambulance Brigade has appealed for more voluntary recruits. They are given first aid and home nursing training, and are re-examined in the-e subjects each year. Last year 999 people joined the brigade, and the staff recruiting officer for the district (Mr I . F. Luxton i said about double this number was needed to ensure that jail sports grounds were (manned for week-end and [evening events. Voluntary brigade assistants were also 1 used to accompany ambul!ance drivers. Last year members of the brigade attended 12,894 cases in the district, and voluntary recruits spent 37.157 hours on public duty. The brigade also has a youth branch in which there were 1162 cadets last year.
